Responsibly Disposing Temple of the Sun Packaging
Temple of the Sun packaging has been thoughtfully considered to reduce its impact on the environment and avoid landfill as much as possible. All packaging is made from recyclable, compostable and reusable materials. So, once you’ve received your beautiful Temple piece here’s how to responsibly reuse or dispose of its packaging.
Jewellery Pouch
The forest green pouch your treasures arrived in is a durable buttery soft faux-suede material. Your pouch is reusable and the perfect place to store your Temple of the Sun jewellery individually to avoid scratches and tangles.
Each order is sent in an FSC-approved cardboard box; FSC stands for 'Forest Stewardship Council' and certifies forests all over the world to ensure they meet the highest environmental and social standards.
The boxes are thick, durable and have been designed to protect your jewellery from getting damaged by being knocked or bent while on their shipping journey.
Use your box to store your jewels at home, while travelling or for trinkets and coins.
The box is recyclable so if you would like to dispose of it follow these simple steps.
Remove the magnetic closure (Waster has some great tips on ways to give it a second life)
Flatten and place with your other paper and cardboard items in your household recycling bin.
Recycled Cardboard Wrap
To ensure your jewellery and box arrives undamaged, all online orders are wrapped in honeycombed recycled cardboard as a final layer of protection. Simply put this in your household recycling bin so it can be turned into something new.
Home composable courier satchels
We use Heropack’s home compostable mailers – while it does look and feel like plastic, it’s not!
Our courier satchels are made from mostly plant-based materials; 70-80% PBAT (a co-polymer that is completely compostable) and 20-30% PLA (cornstarch) and are certified in both Australia and Internationally for home and commercial composting. Excitingly, our courier satchels can be used twice before being disposed of.
Once you’ve received your order simply cut along the dotted line to open your parcel. When ready to reuse, fill the satchel with your mail and use the second adhesive strip to seal it up. Be sure to apply a new address label to cover over the old one.
Once the bag has been reused, the last person to receive it can cut it up and put it in their home-compost bin (note, these can't be placed in the recycling bin). If you don’t have a home compost system you can go to www.sharewaste.com to find someone nearby who does.
Alternatively, you can put it in your green organics waste/compost bin if your council supplies you with one – this will take the satchel off to be commercially composted. Heropack mailers break down over 90-120 days (3-4 months) and will turn into fertiliser for a happy garden.
If your courier satchel does end up in landfill, it will thankfully still break down – but it will take years instead of months to decompose – and still contributes to landfill which we want to avoid as much as possible.
